The 14th February is famous for being the day couples splash out on gifts and cards. Not to mention, the all important romantic meals for two – with wine (alcoholic or alcohol free) being an absolute must.

But did you know wine is just as important as love during February’s celebrations in some places around the globe…

South Korea

In South Korea the 14th day of each month is a day of romance. Candle Day, Valentines Day, White Day, Black Day, Rose Day, Wine Day and Hug Day. The 14th October is officially Wine Day for South Koreans.

Bulgaria

Known as St. Trifon Day, 14th February is Bulgaria’s wine makers day. The roots of this holiday are hidden in the far distant past and most likely relate to the Thracian god of the wine – Dionysius. Single or in a couple, everyone celebrates with a few glasses of the county’s finest wines in honour of the heavenly drink.
